Streets flooded in separate main breaks

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Unrelated water-main breaks left dozens of homes without working plumbing in El Cerrito and La Jolla through much of the morning Friday.

The failed 1950s-era concrete pipelines began flooding traffic lanes in the 4200 block of 54th Place and then in the 7100 block of Country Club Drive less than an hour apart, starting about 5 a.m., according to the San Diego Water Department.

The mishaps knocked out water service to three blocks near Colina del Sol Park, south of El Cajon Boulevard, and to about 20 addresses in the coastal neighborhood west of Soledad Mountain, SDWD spokesman Arian Collins said.

Repair crews had the mains repaired and working again in both areas by early afternoon, Collins said.
