Neighbors chase down DUI suspect, hold him for cops

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police have arrested a suspected drunk driver after he crashed into a pair of parked cars in College Grove.

It happened Sunday along Thorn Street near Hasty.

Neighbors came out of their homes and say they saw a silver vehicle hit car after car, swerving from one side of the street to another.

Witnesses say the driver tried to run away.

"He was holding on to his pants - trying to pull them on - you know the young style - pants way down here - you can't be a criminal and wear those - you can't run (laughs)," witness Jill Roach said.

The driver was caught by neighbors and held until the cops arrived.

Police say the suspect admitted he was drunk.

Authorities also say it's dangerous for citizens to chase and detain suspects because they may have a weapon.
