Homemade acid bombs explode at Lakeside apartment complex

LAKESIDE (CNS) - An investigation was underway Wednesday in Lakeside, where several small homemade acid bombs exploded at an apartment complex, causing minor damage, authorities said.

The bombs, made out of plastic bottles, were spread throughout the Sunset View Apartments complex at 1518 Sams Hill Road Tuesday evening, according to San Diego County sheriff's Detective Bob Wilson.

Deputies were called to the complex around 7:15 p.m. after several explosions were heard in the area. Upon arrival, one bottle that had not exploded was found and was rendered safe, Wilson said.

No one was injured.

Juveniles may have been throwing the bottles off a roof, sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Caldwell told U-T San Diego. According to the newspaper, a toy action figure was found strapped around one of the bottles.
