Local teen inspires life saving test

A local organization is working to prevent sudden cardiac arrests in young people.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A local organization is working to prevent sudden cardiac arrests in young people.

Free heart screenings will be given to students at Patrick Henry High School this weekend.

Eric Paredes was just a sophomore in high school when he collapsed on the kitchen floor of his home. He died back in 2009.

And since then, his parents have dedicated countless hours to providing EKG tests to teens in order to prevent what happened to Eric.

The Save a Life Foundation aims to provide these tests to teens, but it's still good for everyone to know about their heart health.

There is a screening this Sunday, Oct. 20th at Patrick Henry High School. It is free to teens ages 13 to 19.
