Light the Night Against Crime

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - You can be a crime fighter and join the San Diego County Sheriff's Department and the San Diego Police Department this weekend.

Your participation will help catch criminals. Money raised at the event will help fund the anonymous tip line. Part of the money raised will also be used for educational programs.

Since its inception in 1984, CrimeStoppers has helped solve nearly 4,700 cases. The tips also helped led to the arrest of more than 3,200 people and led to the recovery and seizure of more than $18,000,000 in drugs and stolen property.

This year's theme is "Cops and Robbers." Participants can dress up as a cop or robber. The run will start with the sound of an alarm followed by robbers making a break for it. Three minutes later cops will start the race after receiving a call about a robbery in progress. Jaywalkers will then follow the cops.

Each runner receives a t-shirt with glow-in-the-dark logo.

Plus, it's Halloween time, so dress up and win prizes for the best costume.
