SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - One person is dead and several others are injured after a four-vehicle pileup in University City Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. near the Westfield UTC mall at Genesee Avenue and La Jolla Village Drive.
Police reported that an Audi sedan and a Volkswagen Golf were turning left onto La Jolla Village Drive when they were struck by a Prius that ran a red light.
"The driver thought that they could make the red light and proceeded through the intersection against the red light," said Sgt. Pete Townsend with the San Diego Police Department.
The Prius went on to hit a pickup truck. The driver of the Volkswagen died at the scene, despite efforts to save him. His female passenger suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the Prius and the Audi suffered minor injuries.
