Series of dumpster fires in Pacific Beach

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A rash of apparent arson fires damaged trash containers alongside Pacific Beach alleys and kept engine crews busy over a several-hour period.

The series of 10 blazes erupted, one after the other, in access roads near Grand and Garnet avenues between about 7:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

"The suspicion is that it's the same person or persons who started them all because of the time frame and the (close-proximity) locations," SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.

For the most part, the blazes were contained to commercial refuse bins or smaller garbage cans. One also damaged a trash chute attached to an apartment building, Swanson said.

There were no known witnesses to the apparent property crimes, the spokesman said.
