SAN DIEGO (CBS NEWS 8) - A witness released new video Saturday from inside the San Diego police barricade when an officer was shot during a wild chase in City Heights on Thursday.

Ignacio Canela, 31, was arrested and faces several charges including attempted murder for allegedly shooting San Diego police Officer Tim Bell.

The officer, Tim Bell, survived and his home recovering from four gunshot wounds.

Witness Scott Sheppard was inside the perimeter where the chase with Canela ended and captured cell phone video of the chase.

"The Curious George side of me and it was pretty hectic," said Sheppard.

He stopped and started recording on his cell phone the barrage of police officers blocking I-805 and I-15.

You could hear the adrenaline in Sheppard's voice on his video.

"Something is going down," said the witness.

He could see the helicopter in the air and on the ground said he couldn't leave where police blocked off the freeways.

"They didn't want to me go and they didn't know where the suspect was," said Sheppard.

The witness said he knew the scene was serious when he couldn't leave the barricade.

"The officer told me, 'Stay in your car because there is an officer down and shots have been fired and they are looking for the suspect,'" said Shepppard. "My heart kind of sunk because obviously you feel for the officer, they serve the community."

Sheppard said he couldn't leave for about 30 minutes and kept recording the scene on his cell phone.

"You are thinking, 'Man I could get shot,'" said Sheppard. "A little fun but also kind of scary."

Canela is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday. Police said they were trying to serve a warrant for failing to appear on a previous drug charges.

CBS News 8 learned under the state's controversial realignment law, Canela was being supervised by county probation officers in August. He was rearrested on drug charges.

Police are still searching for the woman who was in the car with Canela during the chase.
