YORBA LINDA, Calif. (AP) — A man who authorities say had been hallucinating and talking about zombies has been shot and killed after he allegedly broke into an Orange County home.
Orange County sheriff's investigators say a homeowner shot and killed 22-year-old Paul Bracamontes early Sunday in Yorba Linda. A couple awoke to hear Bracamontes screaming in their backyard.
Authorities say Bracamontes threatened the couple and broke into their home by shattering a sliding glass door. The husband then fatally shot Bracamontes.
Family members told investigators that Bracamontes was hallucinating earlier that night and made references about zombies and wanting a gun.
The homeowners say they did not know Bracamontes.
An autopsy is planned Tuesday and toxicology tests will reveal if Bracamontes was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
