SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police are investigating several cases of sexting involving teen girls at local schools.

Authorities are looking into 30 students spread across six different high schools and one middle school who have been linked to sexting. Detectives say girls sent explicit images of themselves to fellow students, who then passed them on to others.

The students involved are between the ages of 13-18 years old, according to police.

The ongoing investigation is expected to wrap up within 30 days. At that point, police will determine whether to pursue criminal charges against the accused students.

It's unlikely that, if convicted, the teens would face any jail time, according to police.
