Testimony about evidence collection in Tuite retrial

Posted: Updated:

VISTA (CBS 8) - Some crucial testimony about evidence was heard Thursday in the retrial of Richard Tuite.

Tuite is facing voluntary manslaughter charges in the death of 12-year-old Stephanie Crowe in 1998.

On Thursday, the court heard from an Escondido police officer who processed Tuite for evidence. He described what detectives told him they wanted.

"He wanted me to collect his clothing. He wanted me to obtain hand swabs, finger nail scrapings and a fingernail clipping, hair samples from his head and hair samples from his beard," the officer said.

Blood evidence played a strong role in Tuite's first conviction that was overturned by a federal appeals court.
