Tuesday proclaimed "Shane Uribe Day"

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - An enterprising young man we introduced you to earlier this year got his own day Tuesday.

Tuesday was proclaimed "Shane Uribe Day" for his efforts to help San Diego foster kids.

Shane was in foster care from the ages of 4 to 9. He remembers being handed plastic trash bags to keep his belongings in when he was sent from home to home.

Now that he's found his forever home, he's using his Eagle Scout project to make sure other foster kids don't have to carry around trash bags like he did.

"They're going to get a duffle bag and they're not going to have to carry their stuff in a trash bag, so that's going provide a huge comfort to all foster children in San Diego County," he said.

Every heavy duty bag will include a teddy bear, blanket, and flashlight.

Shane hopes to give them out by the end of the month.
