Top mayoral candidates to debate Monday night

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three of the top candidates in the race to become the next mayor of San Diego are set to appear at a forum Monday night at the California Western School of Law.

The question-and-answer session with former City Attorney Mike Aguirre and City Councilmen David Alvarez and Kevin Faulconer was being billed as a nonpartisan event to inform voters ahead of the Nov. 19 special election, according to the law school, which is sponsoring the event along with KNSJ 89.1 FM, the San Diego community radio station.

"This election will be one of the most closely-watched in recent history and will determine the approach our city takes on a number of important community issues," California Western School of Law President and Dean Niels B. Schaumann said in a statement. "California Western is proud to participate in this important civic discussion and to welcome candidates and members of the community to our campus."

Representatives from KNSJ, Voice of San Diego, the San Diego Free Press, and La Prensa were invited to question the candidates, according to event organizers. One or more questions submitted by attendees or members of the public watching or listening to the debate will also be asked.

Attorney Douglas Holbrook, who hosts the radio program "Talk of the Town," is set to moderate.

The forum will be broadcast live on KNSJ, 89.1 FM, and online at knsj.org, according to event organizers.
