Alvarez, Frye push for open government amendments

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - In his capacity as city councilman, David Alvarez Wednesday unveiled a plan to create a more open and transparent city government.

He joined former city councilwoman Donna Frye in proposing amendments to the city charter. Among them would be making communications by city employees, elected officials and contractors available to the public in all forms of media.

He also wants denials to be justified in writing, and fees limited to the cost of copying documents.

"When all members of our community have a voice in the decisions the city makes, we have a government that is inclusive and works for everyone, not just a select few," Alvarez said.

Alvarez is hoping to put the proposal on the June ballot.
