Operation Christmas Child

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas around San Diego, especially this week!

Dozens of local volunteers are busy collecting shoe boxes filled with gifts for Operation Christmas Child -- the world's largest Christmas project of its kind.

At 11 San Diego-area collection sites, these volunteers are on hand starting Tuesday to receive an expected 12,000 gift-filled shoe boxes, packed by caring San Diego area residents with toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement for hurting children in more than 100 countries.

Operation Christmas Child's National Collection Week ends on Monday, Nov. 25. For more information visit samaritanspurse.org.
