New YMCA provides financial shot in the arm for Eastlake

There's a new YMCA in the South Bay and it's packing a big economic punch in the Eastlake community. The new YMCA offers a number of activities and courses.

CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - There's a new YMCA in the South Bay and it's packing a big economic punch in the Eastlake community. The new YMCA offers a number of activities and courses.

The new facility opened November 2, 2013 and is located in the heart of eastern Chula Vista (2311 Boswell Road, Suite 7, Chula Vista 91914).

The Eastlake YMCA offers the community 36,000 square feet of programming, including group exercise classes, a cross training center, and child watch services. More than 50 group exercise classes will be offered each week.

More than 17,000 square feet of the new facility is dedicated to the gymnastics programming. The Eastlake YMCA will be home to the Kari Lyn Sutherland Gymnastics Center.

The Eastlake YMCA was a $1.57 million dollar project, funded solely by the YMCA.

San Diego County has the second largest YMCA association in the country, with an association budget topping $139 million dollars.

With the Eastlake YMCA's opening, the South Bay Family YMCA's economic power will be topping $11 million dollars.
