Food packing event helping Typhoon Haiyan victims

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - School kids and sailors teamed up Thursday for a food packing event supporting the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

Packages of rice, soy meal and dried vegetables were put together by the Santa Fe Christian School community and by sailors from the USS Ronald Reagan.

This effort is part of the school's annual "Give Thanks, Give Back" service project.

"A need has arose in the Philippines. We are redirecting all 200,000 meals to the Philippines along with some water filters and some over the counter medication that are desperately needed over there right now," project coordinator Janelle Nelson said.
