Kick off of the Salvation Army toy drive

The Christmas season is here. Yet so many are having trouble making ends meet.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The Christmas season is here. Yet so many are having trouble making ends meet. But through the Salvation Army toy drive, you can help a family in need have a Merry Christmas.

The Salvation Army is taking a dynamic approach this year by inviting local businesses, schools, churches, clubs and all other community organizations to host a toy drive, collecting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages.

Each year, the need for toys grow as parents work several jobs to pay rent and provide food, often not having anything left over for special gifts for their children. Last year alone, The Salvation Army provided 48,000 toys for 14,000 local children. The Salvation Army's goal for 2013 is to provide 50,000 toys to 15,000 children countywide.

"Each year, we struggle to collect enough toys to meet the needs. We are reaching out to community partners to help this growing need and are thrilled to have Massage Envy pave the way for other businesses looking for a way to contribute to their community this holiday season," said Major Lee Lescano, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army.
