Lucky local military family wins $10K from Jack FM and Sycuan

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - One lucky, local military family got a big surprise live on Jack FM's DSC Show. They won $10,000 as part of Sycuan's '30 Days of Giving' contest.

Using the DSC - Sycuan gave away $500 a day for the past 30 days to local, nominated military families.

Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw and Sara picked the winners.

Jennifer Hubenthal nominated her husband Eric Sayer for Sycuan's '30 Days of Giving' and they won $500.

"I was in the army. We were deployed after September 11th," she said.

Jennifer is a veteran and Eric is active duty.

"He's EOD...explosive ordinance," she said.

Eric is getting ready for another deployment in a few months -- this is the last holiday season he'll be home for a while.

They have two little girls, Tatianna and Mikayla.

Jennifer thought she was joining the DSC on Jack FM Friday to talk about deployment and what she was going to do with the $500, which just went to bills.

"We have a student loan, just bills from our transitions from Ventura County to here... I didn't expect it to be so expensive out here," she said.

Dave had a special announcement to tell her, live.

"I just hope you are okay that everything today here has been a lie," Dave said.

A lie, because what they won was even better.

"Sycuan is here on its 30th anniversary to bring a $10,000 check to you," Dave said.

Now the Hubenthal's holiday season is a whole lot richer thanks to the giving spirit of Sycuan and Jack FM.

And even though Jennifer and Eric are taking on extra jobs, like recycling cans to make ends meet, Jennifer doesn't plan on taking a break, she's actually going to continue with the giving spirit.

"I do want to give some of it to a military cause of some sort," she said. "I think it's just so important to give back."
