Suspicious briefcase found at PB hotel

PACIFIC BEACH (CBS 8) - The bomb squad was called in to investigate a suspicious briefcase left behind at a hotel Saturday morning.

Police say a man walked into the Diamond Head Inn at 605 Diamond St. just before 10:30 a.m. and left a briefcase on the counter.

When a clerk tried to return it, the man ran away. The clerk called authorities who contacted the fire department and the Metro Arson Strike Team.

The area was evacuated as investigators x-rayed the briefcase and then decided to detonate it. No explosive device was found inside.

The suspect returned and was taken into custody.
