Vista man stabbed by stranger outside his home

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - What appears to be a random stabbing has put one Vista man in the hospital. Investigators say around 7:30 a.m. Thursday the victim was in his garage when a man, who hopped a fence into his gated community, asked him for directions and then stabbed him.

Sheriff's investigators tell CBS News 8 that the attacker could have done this before. Neighbors just can't believe this happened in their gated community and on Thanksgiving.

"It's a bit disturbing on a day like today and coming out and finding my neighbor in that state," said one neighbor.

The victim's fiancé believes a young Hispanic in his 20's jumped the fence into their gated community in Mancado Springs and walked up to her boyfriend in the garage and asked for directions. That's when San Diego Sheriff's Deputies say the 60-year-old man was stabbed five to eight times in the neck and chest.

Investigators say the victim was life-flighted from Tri-City Medical Center to Palomar Medical Center. The victim underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

Now investigators are tracking down leads, and they don't know if this random or planned. But they tell CBS News 8 that a man matching the description in this attack targeted another victim Wednesday around 5:45 a.m. in a parking lot on Breezehill Road in Vista. The circumstances were similar: he asked for directions and punched the victim several times.

In both cases, the victims were not robbed but severely beaten or stabbed.
