SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A San Diego patrol officer is telling his incredible story Monday, and says he was just doing his job when he pulled an unconscious man from a burning car.

On Saturday night, the driver of a gold sedan was on the 5800 block of Rancho Mission Road when he lost control and the vehicle flipped over and landed on its roof.

Officer Scott Brengi was the first on scene and crawled into the car to save the driver.

"I actually crawled in on my stomach and almost did like a push-up to get the weight off. And from there I was able to reach up, undo the seat belt. And then of course he released on top of me. So here we are both stuck in the car now," Brengi said.

Brengi pulled himself and the driver out safely. According to police, alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The driver's condition and identity have not been made public.
