80-foot Christmas tree donated to Ocean Beach

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A Christmas tree has been cut down and taken to Veterans Plaza near the pier in Ocean Beach.

For the past 21 years, the Ocean Beach Christmas tree has been donated by a member of the Ocean Beach community. The 80-foot tree took a ride through the streets this morning and will be set up at the foot of Newport and Abbott.

"There's no other place along the California coast that has a Christmas tree actually on the beach with a pier behind it," OB Town Councilmember Claudia Jack said.

The tree will be decorated with hundreds of beach balls, and will be lit at the Ocean Beach parade on Saturday.
