World's tallest Lego tree will light up Thursday night

CARLSBAD (CNS) - The Legoland California Resort in Carlsbad will hold its 11th annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony Thursday afternoon with help from Elizabeth Banks.

The actress, who lends her voice talent to "The Lego Movie," a 3D animated feature due in theaters next year, will help light what's billed as the world's largest Lego Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m.

Legoland plans to donate $10,000 on Banks' behalf to LA's BEST, an after-school care and recreation program for elementary school children in Los Angeles.

The 30-foot-tall Christmas tree that will be lit was created out of more than 245,000 forest green Duplo bricks and is adorned with more than 400 Lego ornaments. More than 11,000 lights illuminate the tree, located in the park's Fun Town area.

Banks plays Effie Trinket in the "The Hunger Games" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." She has also appeared in numerous episodes of "30 Rock" and "Scrubs," and had movie roles in the "Spider-Man" films, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Catch Me if You Can."
