Marine band hitting all the right notes

Just call them the stars of the stars and stripes. A local Marine band from Miramar is sounding all the right notes and racking up the hits on YouTube.

MCAS MIRAMAR (CBS 8) - Just call them the stars of the stars and stripes. A local Marine band from Miramar is sounding all the right notes and racking up the hits on YouTube.

This is the band's third year performing a pop hit before the annual Birthday Ball ceremony.

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band performed Maclemore and Ryan Lewis' hit "Thrift Shop," but they changed the lyrics to "Cash Sales," a store where Marines can buy used gear at a cheaper price.

Since a member posted on YouTube on November 22, their performance has gone viral with more than 240,000 views.

The first year they performed "Bohemian Rhapsody," then "Gangham Style." Now it's a tradition with high expectations.

"Per the Marine Corp doctrine, the only thing we do better is battle," WO Andres Navarro said.

Right now it's considered Super Bowl time for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Band. They are booked until January. You can catch them at the second annual holiday concert at MCAS Miramar in the Bob Hope Theater at 4 p.m. on December 14.
