San Diegans bundle up for a cold December night

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Thousands of revelers heading to December Nights in Balboa Park Friday reached for their scarves and sweaters, bundling up for a festive - and frigid - evening.

"Look at me: I have two hoods and socks over my jeans!" said San Diegan Mariah Wilson, who never misses December Nights.

Her friend, Dariah Radafshar, said this cold weather snap is appropriate for the season.

"It puts me in the holiday spirit," she said. "It makes other people moody, but I like it."

A group of singing elves who entertained the crowds at December Nights said this weather doesn't compare with what they're used to "back home."

"When you grow up in the North Pole, it's not that cold," they said. "This is mild compared to the North Pole!"

Kory Witten, originally from the East Coast, agreed.

"This is not so bad: We got it good!" Witten said. "We're spoiled here."

But for her six--month-old grandson Dean, who is experiencing his first Christmas and Winter, no chances were taken. He was protected head-to-toe from the elements.

"As you can see, we got him bundled up," said his father, Kory Witten, "but he's handling it all right."
