Thieves steal Christmas decorations from Allied Gardens home

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Christmas is still weeks away, but a Grinch is already hard at work in San Diego, stealing Christmas decorations out of a front yard in Allied Gardens.

Thieves are suspected of stealing up to $1,500 worth of decorations from the Dobbins' house.

Their home is featured in San Diego Family magazine as one of the best Christmas decorations stops in Allied Gardens.

Each year, Gina Dobbins says, Santa Claus comes to hear children's Christmas wishes and pose for pictures. Dobbins is panicked the thieves have ruined Santa's visit.

"I think it's disgusting, I think it's disrespectful, it's horrible," said Dobbins.

The Dobbinses don't have children of their own. They decorate their home for the children in the neighborhood, and so other families can visit.

Dobbins says she doesn't have the money to replace the stolen items, but is hoping to have a bright display when Santa comes to visit. Santa will be there from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The home is in the 7000 block of Hillsboro Street.

In this video report, CBS 8's Abbie Alford spoke to neighbors who look forward to the decorations each year.
