SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police were on the lookout Wednesday for the driver who struck a skateboarder at an East Village intersection then sped away, an officer said.
The 23-year-old skateboarder suffered life-threatening head injuries in the crash shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 16th Street and Broadway, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.
Delimitros said the driver of a light-colored four-door Hyundai sedan was headed southbound on 16th Street and crossed into the intersection on a green light, struck the young man then left the scene.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday for a former San Diego police officer accused of groping four women during pat-down searches last year.
Chula Vista police will be looking for drivers talking or texting on cell phones Tuesday and through the end of the month as part of "Distracting Driving Awareness Month."
Police were on the lookout Tuesday for the man who fired a shot while robbing a Rolando-area smoke shop and his accomplice who emptied its cash register.
