USPS ready for busiest mailing day of the year

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego post office is ready for its busiest mailing day of the year.

On Monday, it expects to process about 607 million pieces of mail nationwide.

For last-minute shoppers, the postal service offers quick and easy ways to send holiday gifts and cards. Although the post office will be busy, customers can skip the lines entirely and go online.

"They can also do all their shipping online through 'click and ship.' You actually get a discount on your postage if you do that and you never have to go into a post office," USPS spokeswoman Eva Jackson said.

Locally, the post office expects to handle over 1.8 million holiday cards and nearly 300,000 packages Monday.
