Posted: Updated:

ALPINE (CNS/CBS 8) - Flames engulfed a house in a remote area of Alpine early Monday, causing "significant damage" to the residence, a sheriff's lieutenant said.

The noninjury fire at 828 Homeward Way erupted just before 2 a.m., according to San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Dave Schaller.

No one was hurt, but two dogs may have died in the fire.

The house was heavily damaged. Firefighters knocked down the flames.

The cause is under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping the residents with temporary housing and supplies.
