Warm, windy Christmas across San Diego

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Santa Ana winds were delivering a hot Christmas in San Diego, upping the potential danger of a wildfire.

A National Weather Service wind advisory is in effect for the inland valleys, foothills and mountains through Thursday afternoon.

"There were Santa Ana conditions prevailing expected to continue at least through tomorrow," NWS forecaster Cynthia Palmer said. "It's going to be sunny and warm today and tomorrow lasting through Friday."

By Saturday, the unusually high temperatures -- running near records for this time of year -- should start easing.

"We are expecting a little bit of cloud cover and slightly cooler temperatures on Saturday. Then on Sunday we will be warming right back up again, which should last all the way through the new year."

Highs for the next few days, Palmer said, are forecast to be 73-79 degrees along the coast, 78-85 degrees in inland valleys, the 60s in the mountains and upper 70s in the deserts.

Though the weather is pleasant, NWS warned that the danger of fire remains.

"Because of the rains we have started to see some green up, but we are getting into a period of prolonged warm, dry and windy conditions, so we could start to see the fire danger elevated," Palmer said.
