Vigil to honor Mission Valley shooting victims

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Friends and family are remembering the man and woman killed in a shooting in a Mission Valley parking lot.

A candlelight vigil is being held tonight to celebrate the lives of 22-year-old Ilona Flint and 22-year-old Salvatore Belvedere.

The two were shot inside a car on Christmas Eve. And tonight the search continues for Salvatore's brother Gianni who has been missing since the shooting.

The friends of Ilona Flint are still coming to terms with her passing.

"Sometimes I catch myself and I still think she's here. I almost texted her last night because something popped in my mind and then I realized I'm not going to get an answer."

Andre Briones was her former employer and says she was a strong person and the hardest worker he's ever seen.

Tonight he's organizing a vigil for her and Salvatore Belvedere who passed away Friday. Andre says it will be a chance to mourn, share stories, and give two amazing people a proper goodbye.

"I wish I told her how much I love her, I don't think she knew how much I love her. I'm not sure I ever told her that enough. I don't think I ever told her how great of a friend she was to me," Briones said.

It was early Christmas Eve morning when Salvatore Belvedere and Ilona Flint were shot in a black sedan outside the Mission Valley Macy's. She died at the scene and police are now trying to find Salvatore's brother Gianni, who was also Flint's fiancé.

"We're considering him a missing person...we don't know if he was involved in this or whether he was an actual victim in this, so we're asking for the communities help in locating him," Lt. Kevin Mayer said Thursday.

Friday, homicide investigators executed a search warrant at a family members home but it's unclear what they found. Family and friends also told CSB News 8 they haven't been able to get in contact with Gianni and are very worried.

"As we pray for Sal and Ilona, we plead with the public to help find his brother Gianni, anyone with any info of his whereabouts, if anyone knows anything please contact the SDPD," Paul Donato, Sal's cousin said.

As for tonight's vigil Andre says it's open to the public. He hopes it sends a message to anyone who comes or sees this story.

"Appreciate people because you never know when they're going to leave," Briones said.

As for the whereabouts of Gianni Belvedere, anyone with information on where he may be or about this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
