LA JOLLA (CBS 8) - A rescue helicopter was called in Saturday to pluck an injured man off a dangerous trail above Black's Beach.
Lifeguards say the 60-year-old man was on his way down the dirt path when he slipped and hurt his leg.
Some surfers helped him get to a safer area, then called for help.
"There's some very narrow areas which complicated us getting the person out by using ropes and technical rescue so we opted for safety to use the rescue, fire-rescue helicopter, " Lt. Rich Stropky said.
The trail the man is on is posted as hazardous and lifeguards advise staying on paved roads to get to the beach.
