Fire destroys two cabins in rural Orange County

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (AP) — Crews have extinguished three wildfires that destroyed a pair of cabins in a remote area of eastern Orange County.

County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi says the fires were reported shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Holy Jim Canyon, a wilderness area in the Santa Ana Mountains that's popular among hikers.

Witnesses tell KCAL-TV that an occupant of one of the cabins escaped the flames with his dog.

Officials say at least one person sustained minor injuries but declined treatment.

Several acres of dry brush were charred before crews knocked down the fires around 9 p.m.

Trabuco Canyon Road, which leads to the canyon, remains closed. Firefighters will stay on the scene overnight to monitor hot spots.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
