New machine claims painless fat reduction

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - With the New Year comes many reoccurring resolutions, such as losing weight.

Now, there's a new treatment at some medical spas that claims to zap fat away with no pain.

The Vanquish machine just hit the market about six months ago. It claims to help you lose inches around your waist with no pain.

The Czech-made Vanquish device uses so-called "focused-field radio frequency" to zap fat without ever touching the patient's body. The machine destroys fat cells that the body eventually flushes out. The average client needs about six sessions to lose up to six inches.

In the above video, CBS News 8's Alicia Summers talks with Dr. Roy David, a facial plastic surgeon at Aesthetic Center of La Jolla, who explains how this device works.
