SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS 8) – The mother of a missing 8-year-old boy is making an emotional plea for her son's safe return.

Police believe little Sargon Rose was abducted in 2012 by his father, Edgar Rose, 50, and possibly taken to Baja, Mexico.

The boy's mother has spent the past year and a half looking for her only child on both sides of the border. She was home-schooling the boy in Vista at the time of his disappearance.

"He was very outgoing and he was just a boy who wanted to play and have fun all the time," the mother, Sonia Cobos, told CBS News 8.

"All this time I've been just looking for him by myself. I don't have family here or anyone," Cobos said.

A $500,000 felony arrest warrant has been issued for Edgar Eugene Rose, her ex-husband, on child endangerment charges.

Rose may have crossed the border driving a red van. His mother, Maria Socorro Aguilar, lives in Tijuana.  She told District Attorney investigators she does not know where her son or Sargon are located, according to court records.

"My ex-husband is hiding like a fugitive. My son is living with a fugitive, probably in very poor conditions," said Cobos.

Rose had worked as a general contractor and civil engineer on both sides of the border. He had dual citizenship at the time of the alleged abduction.

Rose may have switched vehicles or changed his appearance since 2012, Cobos said. She has created a Facebook page and posted YouTube video online as part of her search efforts.

Still, there's no sign of 8-year-old Sargon Rose.

"I have so many, many questions and no answers," Cobos said. "He has the right to have a mother and I'm a loving mother."

If you have any information about the case or the location of Sargon Rose, the San Diego Sheriff's Department would like to hear from you.
