Simply Local: Headquarters for homegrown

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A former downtown cop shop and lock-up adjacent to Seaport Village has been refurbished into The Headquarters, and one it's unique stores is called Simply Local.

"To be in the shop, you have to be a San Diego County, locally owned business. We have representation of the very best in San Diego," Brian Beevers said. "About 85 percent of the product is made here locally."

Much of it cleverly displayed on Brian's family heirlooms.

"My father came and brought a lot of wood from his barn that he tore down about 10 years ago. It's an over 100-year-old barn," Brian said.

The front counter of Simply Local is anchored by remnants our history. Perched around these hallowed walls, you'll find gifts unique from paper and concrete to a totally fashionable beer boutique.

"We also have a whole food section," Brian said. "We have sustainable pantry. We have the salt farm. We have California olives, which does tons of olive oil."

And you'll find your bamboo "Stay Classy San Diego" t-shirt, perched in the family closet.

"It literally was pulled right out of my grandfather's house," Brian said.

Since Simply Local first opened its doors in November, Brian has met former cops, judges and secretaries who worked in the old police station and want to share stories of its glory days.

"I hadn't met anybody who had actually been locked up, until about two weeks ago," he said.

If these walls could talk, they would speak volumes of how they've done their time, and now are totally rehabilitated.
