Chargers tasked with stopping Manning again

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Chargers defensive coordinator John Pagano came up with a game plan last month that helped frustrate Peyton Manning and the high-powered Broncos during San Diego's upset win at Denver.

Pagano and his defense will try to do it again Sunday when the Chargers visit the Broncos in a divisional-round playoff game.

The Chargers beat the Broncos 27-20 on Dec. 12, holding Denver to a season-low in points and only 18 yards rushing.

San Diego forced the Broncos to punt on four straight possessions in the second and third quarters, a streak that started with three straight three-and-outs.

Pagano says the keys were communicating well, not allowing big plays and tackling well.

The Chargers offense controlled the ball, helping to keep Manning off the field.
