SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Reports of gunfire in a Stockton-area neighborhood put an elementary school into lockdown mode for about a half-hour Wednesday, but resulted in no reported injuries or property damage.
At least three 911 callers reported hearing from five to 10 shots ring out around the 3200 block of Island Avenue shortly after 3 p.m., according to San Diego police.
Administrators at nearby King-Chavez Primary Academy kept all pupils and staffers secured inside classrooms and offices while patrol officers searched the area, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Kevin Mayer said.
Several people were detained for questioning a few blocks to the west, in the 300 block of Dodson Street, the lieutenant said. It was not immediately clear if they had been involved in the apparent shooting.
