New highway signs urge water conservation

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The California Department of Transportation has launched a campaign to help spread the word about water conservation.

Seven hundred electronic signs along state highways are displaying the message "Serious drought. Help save water" in an effort to raise awareness among California's 24 million drivers.

California recorded its driest year on record in 2013, and last month Governor Jerry Brown declared a drought state of emergency.
