The Cravory: The cookie to crave

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Over the past five years, The Cravory has gained quite a reputation with only limited distribution.

"We started out grass roots here in San Diego, really honed in on the farmer's markets in the local communities. Got that support and we also started online, where we shipped all over the country," Adam Koven said.

But on Valentine's Day, The Cravory will open the doors on its first permanent store, located on west Point Loma Boulevard.

"We shared a kitchen with a catering corporation and now we wanted to build our own facility and have ovens available 24/7, so we can bake all the time," Adam said.

Now customers can sample their unique gourmet treats fresh.

"Like this month, the 'Love Potion' cookie, which is actually a champagne-flavored cookie dough with an orange-infused caramel swirl," Adam said.

There are other valentine's themed specialties, like the "It's Complicated."

"It's actually a red velvet cookie dough combined with cheesecake cookie dough, swirled together with a white chocolate drizzle," Adam explained.

Our course, there are all-time crave faves, like "Birthday Cake."

"This is like a sugar cookie on steroids," Adam said.

In this kitchen, almost anything goes.

"'Pancakes and Bacon' is one of our most popular cookies. It literally tastes like breakfast in a cookie," Adam said.

Chef DerekJ is warming to the new location.

"It's the first time people is San Diego will be able to try our cookies right out of the oven," he said.

And out front at the counter, there are ample samples to acquaint customers with The Cravory difference.

"You're experiencing something different than just a plain old cookie," Adam said.

The Cravory is proving to cookie lovers that you can teach an old dough new tricks.

In 2006, the city of San Diego began allowing political campaigns to electronically file their financial reports, giving the public easy access to information on money in city politics. The county of San Diego wasn’t as quick to make the same kind of information available and continues to lag behind the city’s efforts.
