Multiple gunshot victim taken to hospital, suspect sought

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public Friday for help in identifying a man who wounded a pedestrian with a spray of gunfire from behind the wheel of a car on a Core-Columbia street.

The assailant was stopped at a traffic signal in a northbound lane at Broadway and Ninth Avenue in downtown San Diego about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday when he exchanged a few words with the victim, who was standing on the roadside, according to police.

The motorist pulled a gun and shot the other man five times -- why was unclear -- before speeding off to the east, SDPD Officer Dino Delimitros said.

Medics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

The shooter was described as a mixed-race man, possibly of black and Asian lineage. He was driving a dark-colored sedan similar to a Mazda RX-7 with stickers on the rear window, Delimitros said. A surveillance camera in the area captured images of a car believed to be the one driven by the assailant.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or contact the agency online at sdcrimestoppers.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
