SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man died after he was struck by a hit-and-run pickup truck on a San Diego street, police said Tuesday.

It happened about 8:50 p.m. Monday in the 3900 block of National Avenue, San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

"A 50- to 60-year-old Hispanic man was in the street looking at garbage cans when a dark, Ford F-150 hit him and continued on," Delimitros said. "The victim was launched in the air and wedged under a parked car and died of his injuries."

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead from severe trauma, Delimitros said.

Witnesses were not certain of the exact color of the truck, which might have been black, he said.

The vehicle should show damage from striking the man, Delimitros said.
