DUI suspect flips car, crashes into home

Posted: Updated:

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - A car full of people drove off the road and slammed into an Escondido home overnight, and authorities say this isn't the first time this has happened at this residence.

The vehicle, with seven people inside, crashed into a home in the 3000 block of Bernardo Lane around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

California Highway Patrol officers say the driver was speeding and took a turn too fast, crashing into the side of the home. The car landed on its side with a shattered windshield.

No injuries were reported and CHP officers say everyone appeared to be wearing their seat belts at the time of impact.

The 23-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI. Some of the other occupants took off running following the crash. However, none of them will be cited

The homeowner was not home at the time of the crash.

Neighbors in the area say in the past a similar accident happened at this house and that time the vehicle crashed and landed on the home's porch.
