5K, 10K, Music and More Featured at April 10 Event

DALLAS, Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The White Rock Lake Conservancy in cooperation with the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department will host Celebration! White Rock, a one-night race and festival, on Thursday, April 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Celebration! White Rock will feature a 5K race, a 10K race, music and more. Race registration is at celebrationwhiterock.org.

"White Rock hosts hundreds of events every year, from marathons and training runs to family reunions and birthday parties," says Bill Mateja, chairman of the White Rock Lake Conservancy. "This is an event dedicated to celebrating the lake itself. White Rock is the largest urban park in the nation, larger even than New York's Central Park. It deserves its own party."

Celebration! White Rock's Inaugural Sponsor and race organizer is Luke's Locker. The Dallas-based running and fitness leader has a well-earned reputation for affiliating with well-organized and entertaining events. Comerica, Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake, Banowetz + Company, Inc., Standing Dog Interactive and Androvett Legal Media & Marketing have signed on as corporate sponsors.

"We would like to see this become an annual event that gets bigger each year," says event co-chair Mike Androvett. "White Rock needs our support. It's enjoyed by more than 1 million visitors each year and it's our city's most valuable natural resource."

Proceeds from the event will benefit improvement projects at the park, including the Stone Tables and Pavilion, reconstruction of fishing piers, and other much-needed infrastructure projects.

"These projects will greatly enhance the enjoyment and aesthetics of the park, as well as the safety and functionality," says event co-chair Dave Pastre. "White Rock Lake is an important part of our city's history, and Celebration! White Rock will help us restore and commemorate it."

The White Rock Lake Conservancy was founded in 2008 by a group of park enthusiasts to enhance the identity, beauty and safety of White Rock Lake in cooperation with Dallas Park and Recreation and other neighborhood and lake volunteer groups.
