CHULA VISTA (CNS) - It took ground and airborne crews about an hour Monday to subdue a fire that spread over about four open acres in a riverbed area on the outskirts of Otay Valley Regional Park.
The non-injury blaze off Main Street and Beyer Boulevard in Chula Vista erupted for unknown reasons shortly after 2:30 p.m., city Deputy Fire Chief Jim Garcia said.
About two dozen engine-crew personnel fought the flames with help from a water-dropping helicopter. No structures were threatened as the blaze moved through thick vegetation, Garcia said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
