CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man beat a woman with a brick in Chula Vista early Wednesday, landing him in jail on an attempted murder charge and sending her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
The beating in the 100 block of Twin Oaks Circle was reported at 6:45 a.m., according to Chula Vista police Lt. Lon Turner. Neighbors contacted police saying there was a female screaming at a home.
The man was arrested at the scene, he said.
Officials say the woman was struck with the brick at least four times in the head. The woman was rushed into emergency surgery. She was listed in critical condition.
The man -- who lives in a neighboring county -- and the victim divorced 37 years ago and have an adult child together.
"There is a heat of passion type of crime that happens when an argument heats up, then there's a different type of crime where someone actually plans to do some bodily injury," Turner said. "In this case we believe the suspect came down and planned to either accost this female or his son."
