SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Students in City Heights now have a safer way to get to and from school.

A new crosswalk has opened at Orange and Central avenues near Teralta Park.

Councilwoman Marti Emerald spearheaded the push for the crosswalk after parents from several area schools expressed concern over pedestrian safety in the area.

Several students were onhand Thursday to thank Emerald. They then used the crosswalk to get back to school.
