SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man accused of raping a teenage acquaintance on the grounds of a University City apartment complex pleaded not guilty Friday to seven felony charges.
Erick Rojas was ordered held without bail on an alleged probation violation. Judge Michael Smyth set bail at $250,000 on the rape case.
Rojas faces 37 years and eight months if convicted of the charges, said Deputy District Attorney Trisha Amador.
The defendant was socializing with the girl in the 7600 block of Palmilla Drive, along with two other men, when he allegedly attacked her about 9 p.m. Tuesday.
"She yelled for help, and a nearby security guard called police," SDPD Lt. Chuck Kaye said.
When patrol officers arrived, the suspect ran off, the lieutenant said. They arrested him following a brief foot chase.
Rojas is charged with rape by force, sodomy of an underage female, forcible sodomy, sex with a minor, sodomy of an intoxicated female, rape of an intoxicated female and resisting arrest.
The judge scheduled a March 11 readiness conference and a March 13 preliminary hearing.
