Mother thanks SDPD officers for saving her baby

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Quick action by a couple of San Diego police officers is credited with saving a baby's life.

Video shot from across the street captured the action last Monday when the child stopped breathing and the officers moved fast to start CPR.

On Friday, the baby's mother Monique Matthews visited the Southeast Division station to personally thank officers Mark Herring and Tobias Hoffman for saving her child.

"The first officer, I just melted and hugged him in his arms because it was like, thank you so much... I'm forever grateful," Matthews said.

"Just rubbing the chest trying to get reaction out of the baby and it started crying, and that's the best cry you can ever hear," Officer Mark Herring said.

The baby was released from the hospital Friday and is doing fine.
